Baby Zane

Our sweet little baby Zane has arrived!

(The pic above was taken 3 days before his debut.)

On Thursday Oct. 4th, I woke up around 3 am with a feeling that this baby is coming. I couldn't lay down comfortably. I then realized I was having contractions. (I was worried that I wouldn't know what contractions felt like. HA!)
So I got out of bed, got on Google and browsed to see if I truly was in labor. Google knows all!
I then started timing and they were about 10 min apart. I could not sit down at all.
I turned on the TV to try and relax and of course multiple episodes of The Baby Story was on. So I took notes episode after episode.
After 3 hours of walking laps around the house, watching TV, and timing contractions, I decided I needed to wake Derek up and tell him to get ready.
I told him that he was going to be a daddy today. He didn't believe me at first. And then it hit him, he was sooo nervous! So we took showers, got ready, packed bags, made breakfast, got a blessing, and just waited.
Contractions were about 5 min apart and that is when my midwife said to call her.
I called her up and she said to come on in to her office and she'd check me. We went in and I was at a 5. It was game time!
We got checked into the hospital around 9:30ish.
I got my epidural (aaaaamazing!!) a couple hours later and felt on cloud nine.
And then just waited & waited.
Derek's mom came and checked on us. And then my mom showed up around 2.
I was feeling great. It was weird to think that I was about to have a child. The Baby Story made it look much worse!
The nurse came and checked me (not sure what time) and said I was ready to go. While the nurses started bringing in tables of knives and scissors (scary sight), we waited for my midwife to show up.
Since I couldn't feel my contractions, the nurses had to tell me when to push. I pushed through 3-4 contractions and then finally at 3:58, Zane Derek Roylance arrived in all his chubby glory.
We asked the nurse how much she thought he weighed. She said a good 7 lbs. My midwife said, "No way, he is a good 9 lbs". What?!!?

Right before my midwife showed up.

Derek was more nervous than me! Poor guy almost had a heart attack!
Baby Zane! His poor head was very cone shaped and swollen.
It was scary because he turned so purple. (The pic looks worse than in real life)
 Derek cutting the cord.
Right after oxygen. It was crazy how quick the purple faded.
 9 8.3 lbs!
When Derek first saw the screen, he thought it was 8.3 lbs. And that is how much he weighed when he was born, so he thought that was pretty sweet. Until we told him there was a 9 in front of that 8.3. Haha!
 He was 20 inches long.
The new daddy with his son.
My first time holding him all cleaned up. I was still in shock.
 Family of 3 now!
Trying to open up his eyes.
And soon after the visitors started coming in.
The new Grandpa and Grandma!
My Mom! She was so helpful! I didn't want her to leave the room. So she got to stay and be the photographer. :)

Keston was soo excited to "carry him".
 Jared rockin the babe.
Mitch and Marissa practicing on holding a baby. Their time is coming quick.
The next day I celebrated my birthday in the hospital and just smooched on my little guys cheeks all day.

Getting ready to go home.
 His first car ride.
We got home, showered, unpacked and reality hit. Ha! We were stuck with this little guy.

But we wouldn't want it any other way. We love little Zane so much and we are glad he finally joined our family. He was well worth the wait!!

Ah Sara you looked gorgeous I'm so jealous! Haha! I now wish I'd have opted to put on makeup before going to the hospital! I took a shower and shaved my legs and was going to do my makeup but then decided against it...bad choice, I looked horrible LOL...anyway, congrats again on baby Zane! I'll bet you're an amazing mommy!
